It’s a pity all too often the sites that sell this type of over-promise seo resort to buying a lot of crap keyword domains and stuffing your website in giant link farms of their own clients that eventually get nuked (and have never even passed Pagerank ever), and than get your site in trouble -so much so you can barely rank for your brand name.

How to spot if you *could* be getting screwed

• They called you. And you don’t even know what Google is.
• Before they even touch your site, they will probably want a link back to their website with the nice juicy anchor text that helped you find them in the first place, so continuing the circle of pain
• You find out you rank for well incredibly obscure keyphrases (only crap seo companies bother to tell you that bull
• All their directories kind of look the same
• They have got Google by the gonads, or so they say
• Why is your website leads going through their system?
• Why are you all of a sudden getting links from crap web Hosting and development company websites in faraway lands?
• Is there any hidden text on your page (like a drop down that has 500 words in it)
• After months and months, you are getting nowhere - visibly, in all areas.

You know, 08 SEO is *&^%ing hard work. It’s about making everything, better.

If you are a bricks and mortar business, and your seo isn’t looking to improve your site, just your rankings, perhaps you should question the longevity of their efforts. If your SEO is talking technical with you and you can’t even recognise it’s your actual business you are discussing at the meetings…. you could be taking one up the road less traveled.

SEO is evolving. On it’s own it’s own, it’s probably not going to save your business but as part of an integrated marketing approach, this Recession, SEO could make all the difference between your business surviving or not.
